Can You Put A 12v Battery In A 6v Tractor. Each of the 3 cells in a 6v battery produces a bit over 2 volts just like each of the 6 cells in a 12v battery produces a bit over 2 volts. But I cant tell whether its a 12 volt or a 6 volt.
If its wired for 6v then it wont work. And the battery will not get charged by the generator because it only puts out 6 volts. I know this is not recommended On my old MM U tractor I got sick and tired with messing with the 6 volt batteries I finally put a 12 battery volt in it and put a one wire GM alternator on the tractor figured I have the starter rewired if I ever fired it ran it for about 12 years with the 12 volt battery and it started really nice some other things went wrong with it and finally parked it.
Let the battery charge for 15 minutes and then try to start the engine.
There is one interesting thing about this though. Ive seen some put 12v. I was just impressed how easily it started but it was already running really well on 6V. I use so-called heavy duty commercialindustrial grade 6 volt batteries same size as original in my pre-war cars and Farmall no problem.
